Silent Party
I'm not going to lie, when I first heard about this I thought it was such a non-social way of doing parties. Think about it, once we put our headphones we tend to shut down everyone and everything around us, making any interaction with one another easily avoidable and unnecessary.
I was so wrong.
The event was free and it was right in the middle of the Herald Square Eats, where a handful of restaurants have stands with everything from BBQ to Thai and tacos. Oh, and let's not forget beer and drinks if you wanted as well.
The cool thing about this party is that it had 3 DJs competing for the most people tuned to their stations. Depending on what station you were listening to the color of your headphone lights would change, and it was actually a pretty cool dynamic.
Not only was the party non intrusive and very quiet (duh), it turns out it was also a very social experience. Although talking can be awkward, you do interact with whoever you are with when you share current stations, and also when you get excited about something that is playing in yours and you want others to change it.
The best part of this event, besides it’s cost, is that is was very enjoyable for all ages. Adults had drinks available, and kids were ecstatic to see everyone dancing to the rhythm of what they could hear on their headphones.
Going to events where I can see people smiling and enjoying themselves, especially in a public space surrounded by one of the most vibrant cities in the world, is what often makes all of the hardship and struggle we can experience in New York worth it.
So get off your couch aim to always explore more because this city truly has something interesting going on every day.
No voy a negar que cuando escuche de esta fiesta pensé que era la manera menos social de disfrutar un evento. Piénsalo, estamos acostumbrados a ponernos nuestros audífonos y completamente desconectarnos de todos y todo a nuestro alrededor haciendo cualquier interacción con los demás un estorbo e innecesaria.
Que equivocada estaba.
La parte súper cool de esta fiesta es que habían 3 DJs compitiendo para tener la mejor cantidad de personas escuchando su estación. Dependiendo de cuál de ellos estabas escuchando el color de la luz de tus audífonos cambiaba, lo cual creaba una dinámica bien visual e interesante.
La fiesta no fue solamente para nada molestosa y callada (claro), sino que también fue una experiencia súper social. Aunque hablar podía ser incómodo, verdaderamente interactúas con las personas de tu grupo cuando escuchas una canción que te encanta e invitas a los demás a cambiar a tu estación.
El evento era gratis y justo en el centro de Herald Square Eats, donde varios restaurantes tenían estaciones vendiendo de todo desde Barbacoa, comida Tailandesa y hasta tacos. Oh, y no me puedo olvidar de mencionar que había cerveza y tragos si querías.
La mejor parte de este evento, además de su costo, es que era apto para todas las edades. Los adultos tenían sus tragos si querían y los niños estaban absolutamente fascinados con ver a todo el mundo bailar al ritmo de lo que ellos escuchaban en sus audífonos.
Ir a eventos donde puedo ver a todo el mundo sonriendo y disfrutando, especialmente rodeados de una de las más vibrantes ciudades del mundo, es lo que hace muchas veces que todo el trabajo que se pasa en Nueva York valga la pena.
Así que párate de tu sofá y sal a explorar, porque esta ciudad tiene algo interesante pasando en sus calles todos los días.
