Me Has Devuelto por Covi Quintana Y Imágenes de Amor Más Inclusivas

The first time I saw Covi Quintana perform live was at her parent’s bar in la Zona Colonial, so long ago I can’t accurately tell you the year. Music has always been her thing and it has been amazing to see her grow without losing esa chispa that made me remember her long after she performed and I even left the island.
When she came over to play at the Dominican Sounds Festival in New York, it further confirmed to me that she’s on a path to success. One she has paved with extremely hard work and thankfully, without sacrificing her creative integrity, this video being - I think - proof of this.
But it’s not just the beautiful lyrics and her charming voice the reason I come here to share this video. It is because Covi and her team chose to do something far more meaningful and powerful with a new single: They chose to show more inclusive pictures of love. Love stories that take place right in our island and that to my knowledge, had never been pictured so clearly as you see them here.
Let’s never forget dominican artists need us in order to continue making music and challenging the industry and even society with pieces that can’t be ignored, and it’s up to us to decide what we’d like to be represented by.

La primera vez que vi a Covi Quintana cantar en vivo fue en el bar de sus padres en la Zona Colonial, hace tanto tiempo que no puedo decirte exactamente el año. La música siempre ha sido lo suyo y ha sido increíble verla crecer sin perder esa chispa que me hizo recordarla mucho después de escucharla y hasta irme de la isla.
Verla tocar en el Dominican Sounds Festival en Nueva York, me confirmó que ella está en el camino hacia el éxito. Uno que ha pavimentado con un trabajo extremadamente duro y afortunadamente, sin sacrificar su integridad creativa - este video siendo una prueba de exactamente esto.
Pero no son solo las bellas letras y su encantadora voz la razón por la que comparto hoy este video. Es porque Covi y su equipo eligieron hacer algo mucho más significativo y poderoso con una nueva canción: Eligieron mostrar imágenes de amor más inclusivas. Historias de amor que tienen lugar en nuestra isla y que, hasta donde sé, nunca se habían visto tan claramente y abiertamente.
Nunca olvidemos que los artistas dominicanos nos necesitan para seguir haciendo música y desafiar a la industria e incluso a la sociedad con piezas que no pueden ignorarse, y nos toca a nosotrxs decidir cómo queremos ser representadxs.
